Margaret Preece presents Rule Britannia - an evening of musical highlights celebrating Jubilee year
From Press Office on 27 January 2012
West End star Margaret Preece and her accompanist, Phil Wayne, celebrate the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II, in this her glorious Diamond Jubilee, with an evening of nostalgic, heart-warming musical highlights at Solihull Arts Complex on Thursday 1st March in the Theatre.
Born in Solihull, operatic Soprano Maggie has had a diverse career including leading roles in the West End playing Mother Superior in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Sound of Music and Carlotta in his smash hit The Phantom of the Opera – where she went on to sing the entire Minnie Driver role in the film version and played the part of The Confidante. More recently she has toured around the country playing Jean in the smash hit comedy Dinner Ladies.
Maggie adds "I am thrilled to be back singing in Solihull again! I was born here and my musical and stage career started with the encouragement of my parents who belonged to various operatic and dramatic societies in the area. I joined them too when I was very young - as did my siblings! - and played leading roles in lots of shows and plays; and also sang solos with local choral groups and for rotary and golf clubs and the like, before I went to college to study. So lots of happy memories!.. I made my stage debut as a little girl, on the stage on the old Civic Hall, on the site of the Solihull Arts Complex! It’s great to be back on my old stomping ground."
Laugh, cry and feel romantic to the music of Noel Coward, Ivor Novello, Richard Rodgers, Edward Elgar, The Beatles, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and many more!
