Eco visit for the Mayor of Solihull
From Press office on 28 February 2012
The hard work of some green-fingered school pupils has been rewarded with a visit from the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Irene Chamberlain.
The eco team from Chapelfields School worked with Solihull Council’s Environment Champions to plant saplings and new grass seeds outside the school’s entrance, along with a small, bow-topped fence.
As well as improving the appearance of the area, the project had another use; previously there had been some problems with cars parking right outside the entrance, which proved to be a hazard for pupils.
The new eco area will stop cars parking there in the future, while the pupils will be taking responsibility to maintain the saplings and water the grass seeds until they germinate.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Irene Chamberlain, officially opened the area and said: “This is a great project and a very creative way to help solve parking issues. I’m looking forward to seeing the fruits of the pupils’ labour later in the year when the seeds have germinated.”
The school has also agreed to work with Environment Champions again on future projects.
