Music in the Park a resounding success

From Press office on 15 May 2012

Record numbers of people gathered in Knowle Park on Sunday 6 May to enjoy the first of Solihull Council’s increasingly popular ‘Music in the Park’ events.

Around 500 visitors were treated to exceptional performances from three local young jazz bands – the SMS Jazz Band, Junior Jazz Matters and Senior Jazz Matters.  All of the bands receive tutelage from Solihull Music Services and include many school pupils from the borough.

The young players displayed impressive ability and performed a rousing programme which received a very enthusiastic response from the audience.

A particular highlight was the drumming and singing of Alex Cordell, whose rendition of ‘Beyond the Sea’ showed just why he was recently selected as one of the most promising young musicians in the country.

The event was a huge success and drew much needed attention to both the talented young performers of our borough, as well as Music Services for their terrific work in nurturing them.

The next ‘Music in the Park’ event will be the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in Shirley Park on Sunday 3 June, which begins at 1pm.
