Changes to leisure centre crèche facilities in Solihull
From Cllr Mrs Kate Wild, Cabinet Member for Community Services on 21 June 2012
Solihull Council has agreed changes to the crèche facilities in the borough’s leisure centres.
As part of the changes, the Tudor Grange leisure centre crèche will close. This is due to the low usage over the past 18 months, where there has been an average of two children using it per day, while costing taxpayers £11,535 a year.
The crèche facility at North Solihull leisure centre will continue to run, but will reduce its opening hours to two mornings a week. This arrangement has been made to reflect which times the crèche is most used and will continue to be reviewed annually.
Councillor Mrs Kate Wild, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “This was a very difficult decision to make and I am disappointed to be in the position of having to take it.
“At North Solihull Sport Centre, the crèche is most used in the morning, and the new hours will be more suited to how often the crèche is used and when.
“Use of the crèche at Tudor Grange has been consistently low over the past 18 months and sadly does not support the continued provision of the facility.”
The changes will come into effect later this year.
The decision is subject to the normal scrutiny call in process, and if not called in for scrutiny, becomes effective on 26 June 2012.
