Community order for falsely claiming benefits

A 22 year old woman has been given a 12 month community order, following a conviction for falsely claiming benefits.

Leonie James, of Willow Way, Chelmsley Wood, appeared before Solihull Magistrates Court on Monday 25 June.
She was charged with dishonestly producing false statements between 12/7/10-17/11/10 to obtain Job Seekers Allowance and producing a false statement on 22/10/10 in order to obtain Housing and Council Tax Benefit. She had been working for a healthcare company and failed to declare it.

She pleaded guilty to the charges.

Magistrates sentenced James to a Community Order for 12 months with the condition that she does 60 hours unpaid work. She will also have to repay the overpaid benefits – Job Seekers Allowance of £955.52, Housing Benefit of £1,066.92 and Council Tax Benefit of £235.19.
