Three more Green Flag parks for Solihull
From Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen, Cabinet member for Safer Communities on 03 August 2012
It is time to celebrate for three borough parks, after they became the latest to achieve a Green Flag Award.
Hillfield Park and Local Nature Reserve, Tudor Grange Park, and Babbs Mill Recreation Ground and Local Nature Reserve have all been awarded the honour, taking the borough’s total to 10 Green Flag parks – the joint highest for any area in the West Midlands.
The Green Flag Award Scheme is a benchmark national standard for parks and green space in the UK.
To achieve a Green Flag, parks are judged on a variety of criteria, including their management, sustainability, how clean they are and whether they are a welcoming place.
Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: “This is fantastic news and gives us another reason to be proud of the borough’s parks. Reaching Green Flag status for one park takes a lot of effort and commitment, so to have 10 Green Flag parks really is a fine achievement.”
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Ken Hawkins, said: “We’re very proud of our parks and open spaces in Solihull, so this news really is positive. It is also great to see how, regionally, we are right of the forefront when it comes to how many Green Flag parks we have on our patch. Well done to everyone involved in making this happen.”
The three latest additions join Malvern and Brueton, Knowle, Elmdon, Shirley, Lavender Hall, Dorridge and Meriden Parks in holding a Green Flag Award.
