Residents of Hampton in Arden have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a neighbourhood plan for Hampton in Arden.
94.77% of voters answered ‘yes’ to the question ‘Do you want Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Hampton in Arden to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’
This result means that the Neighbourhood Plan will be adopted (subject to formal Council approval) and become part of the adopted local plan for Solihull. It will be used to assist Solihull Council in making decisions on development applications for the area.
The Plan has been produced by Hampton in Arden Parish Council with community support. It contains policies to guide the future use and development of land within the defined area.
Cllr Ian Courts, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Managed Growth, said:
“It is very positive to see such a strong vote in favour of the Neighbourhood Plan, a first in Solihull.
“This is a real endorsement of neighbourhood planning, and indicates the appetite that exists within the local community to get involved in shaping their future development and growth.
“I look forward to our other neighbourhood areas following suit in the coming months and years.”
Mike Blomer, Chair of Hampton in Arden Parish Council, said:
"I am very pleased with this result which is clear support for the work done over the past five years to produce our Neighbourhood Plan.
“We now have a Plan we can be proud of and which, we trust, will influence the way residents wish to see our community and the surrounding area develop over the next ten years.”
The Plan covers the period from 2015 to 2028 and includes a vision and challenges for the parish and the objectives of the plan as well as policies on housing, local economy, transport, the environment and community.
