Deputy Mayor enjoys a souper douper lunch

The Deputy Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mike Robinson, attended a community lunch at Olton Library on Friday 23 February for elderly people and those at risk of being vulnerable or lonely.

Invited residents were able to choose one of the many homemade soups that were prepared by library staff as well as by fellow residents. Guests mixed together at large, communal tables at this event that was organised by Solihull Council’s Neighbourhood Services and library volunteers.

Cllr Robinson said: “It’s really good to see so many local people coming together and sharing a meal. To think none of this would have happened had it not been for the library staff and their singular determination that no one from this community need dine alone today.

“This event was a great success and shows that libraries are much more than places to simply loan books; they are becoming community hubs. This has been so popular I am confident there will be many more wonderful events, just like this planned for libraries across the borough.”
