Solihull Council is encouraging young people to apply to be candidates in next year’s Youth Parliament elections to be held in February 2018.
Solihull is entitled to one member of Youth Parliament and one deputy to represent the views and ideas of young people at national level. Any UK resident between the ages of 11 and 18 (inclusive) living in Solihull or attending a Solihull school or college can stand for election in Solihull and has the right to vote for their Member of Youth Parliament (MYP).
Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills, said “This is a great opportunity for young people to let decision-makers know what matters to them, to work on campaigns to bring about change and to develop their own skills and confidence.
“Application packs have been sent to all Solihull schools and colleges. I hope that Head Teachers will facilitate the full participation of their students in the nominations and MYP elections and help to ensure there are candidates from a wide range of young people. I wish good luck to all candidates."
The deadline for completed applications is Tuesday 19 December. For an application pack, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information visit the UK Youth Parliament website.
