Solihull Council has received a petition requesting a Community Governance Review (CGR) to merge Balsall Parish Council and Berkswell Parish Council into one new parish council for the area.
The petition was signed by the required number of electors to trigger a review under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007. A CGR is a legal process where councils can consider creating, merging and altering parishes, among other possibilities.
The petition is entitled “We the undersigned… request that Solihull Council conduct a Community Governance Review on the boundaries of both parishes with the aim of improving the governance arrangements for all residents.”
“The area covered by the two parishes is shown on the map below and we request that the CGR considers, but does not limit its review to considering the merging of both parish councils to create one new parish council for the total area.”
The consultation period on the Terms of Reference began on 21 December and will run until 28 February 2018. This document will explain the aims of the review, the legislation that guides it and some of the policies that the Council considers important in its reviewing process.
Residents in Balsall and Berkswell are encouraged to let the Council know their views during the consultation period. Comments can be left online here, emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to Electoral Services, Solihull Council, Council House, Manor Square, Solihull, B91 9QS.
Draft proposals will be prepared and open to consultation later in 2018. Final proposals will then be prepared and open to consultation in the summer of 2018.
