Court finds against mother for child’s unauthorised absences

On Friday 23 March, a Solihull parent was given a 12 month community order following their children’s unauthorised absences from school.

The mother was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates Court after her children failed to attend school between September and November 2017. The defendant failed to attend the original court date on 16 February 2018.

The Judge deemed the case a category 1 offence and sentenced the defendant to a 12 month Community Order with 25 Rehabilitation and Activity Requirement days. He ordered a contribution to costs of £300 and also a Victim Surcharge of £85 with all amounts to be paid within two weeks.
