Mayor meets Youth Parliamentarians

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Flo Nash, recently met two local students who were elected in February to represent Solihull in the UK Youth Parliament.

Mason Rogers, 16, a student at Smiths Wood Sports College, was elected as Member and Kawoon Bik, 11, a student at Yew Tree Primary School, was elected as his Deputy.

The Mayor discussed the young representatives' campaign on mental health, including the ‘Mental Health Conference’ planned for 10 October, the upcoming UK Youth Parliament annual sitting in July, as well as the debate in House of Commons later this year.

The Mayor said:  “It was a pleasure to meet Mason and Kawoon who both demonstrate the passion and hard work that is needed to address the challenging subject of young people’s mental health.

“Their determination to help their fellow students at a local and national level is fantastic and shows the young talent we have in our borough.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what Mason and Kawoon achieve representing Solihull in the UK Youth Parliament!”

Mason and Kawoon have also brought attention to the difficulties surrounding the transition of students between primary and secondary school, and for students leaving secondary school.
