Get involved in National Carers Week

Publish date:Wednesday, June 6, 2018

Solihull Council is supporting National Carers Week 2018, which this year takes place from Monday 11 June to Sunday 17 June.

The national campaign aims to raise awareness of unpaid caring, the challenges carers face and the contribution they make. This year the focus is on supporting carers to stay healthy and connected.

The Carers Trust Solihull (previously known as Solihull Carers Centre) have coordinated a number of events throughout the week for carers of all ages across the borough, and will be visiting community venues to help raise awareness of carers and services that are available to support them. On Monday 11 June the tour will take them to the Civic Suite at the rear of Solihull Council House, where employees and professionals can drop in between 12:30pm and 1:30pm.

A 5K fundraising walk will take place on Sunday 10 June at Packwood House, with the kind permission of the National Trust. Registration begins at 10am and includes entry to the house and gardens. All funds raised will go to supporting carers in Solihull.

Registered carers can also attend a theatre trip for adult carers or a Carers Week Party for young carers; whilst on Wednesday 13 June there will be a conference for carers and professionals on at Tally Ho in Birmingham.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care & Health, said: “Carers are vital to our communities and Carers Week is a great way for us to celebrate them and acknowledge the contribution they make to people’s lives in Solihull.

“Carers do a remarkable job caring for loved ones who are family and friends, and we are dedicated to building communities which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with health and wellbeing needs of their own.

“I encourage people to visit the events that are taking place during the week or contact The Carers Trust Solihull for information and advice on how they can be supported.”
