Calling all litter pickers - look out for the Litter Picking Hubs

Publish date:Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Love Solihull – Solihull Council’s environmental initiative – has launched a Litter Picking Hub window sticker scheme across the Borough.

Anyone wanting to do a spot of litter picking can pick up a kit wherever they see the Love Solihull Litter Picking Hub sign.

The hub signs are being introduced across the Borough in response to the increasing demand from local residents for litter picking equipment.  Love Solihull has received a huge amount of enquiries from residents who want to help keep their neighbourhoods tidy.  Following the success of the annual Great British Spring Clean events, interest has been steadily rising.  Lots of new litter picking groups have started in the last 12 months including the Damsonwood Litter Pickers, Babbs Mill Litter Picking Group and Smiths Wood Litter Pickers.

Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Stronger Communities and Partnerships, Cllr Alison Rolf, said: “It’s been wonderful to see the growing enthusiasm of residents and their immense pride in keeping Solihull clean, green and tidy.  There are already lots of established groups across the Borough – but we know there are many more people out there who would like to join in.  Wherever people see the Love Solihull Litter Picking Hub signs, they can borrow a full kit and start litter picking.”

The litter picking kits contain green bags, stylish (!) Love Solihull vests and litter pickers.  Anyone can borrow a kit as long as they complete the signing out form and agree to the guidelines and risk assessment supplied with the equipment.

The Hubs are at:

  • Castle Bromwich Library
  • Chelmsley Wood Connect, near the library
  • Hobs Moat Library
  • Kingshurst Library
  • Knowle Library
  • Olton Library
  • Shirley Library
