Staff from JLR and Solihull Council have stepped in to support Wayne Elcock’s Boxing Academy and make sure the gym can remain open and safe.
The boxing gym in Chelmsley Wood suffered extensive flood damage earlier in the year and although it was repaired and weatherproofed, the interior badly needed an overhaul.
The Council’s Love Solihull team approached Jaguar Land Rover who were happy to send a team along to support the gym as part of their corporate social responsibility work. The team of 12 quickly put their design and engineering skill to good use, plaster boarding and decorating the gym.
Former British and WBU World Champion Wayne Elcock said: “I can’t thank the teams at JLR and Solihull Council enough. They not only repaired the damage my gym suffered through a burst pipe, but made it look better than it was before! I am absolutely blown away with how it looks and all the work the guys have put in to transforming the damaged area.”
The boxing academy is essential to the local community and works in partnership with Solihull Council to deliver a boxing project with young people. The club offers 12 weekly sessions aimed at young people and adults and won the Outstanding Community Project award in 2016 at the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner's Outstanding Citizen Awards.
