Solihull Council has appointed Ruth Tennant as its new Director of Public Health.

The appointment was formally ratified by Full Council on Tuesday 9 October.

Since 2015 Ruth has been the Director of Public Health at Leicester City Council where her remit includes public health and leisure services. Prior to this she was Deputy Director of Public Health at Coventry City Council.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Solihull’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care & Health, said: “I’m delighted that Ruth is joining our team in Solihull. She is a superb leader of Public Health and public services, and we are really excited that her work will now impact on Solihull people, our region and public health system.”

Ruth has also held roles at the European Parliament, Audit Commission and King’s Fund. She was also a lay member of South Southwark Primary Care Group and Non-Executive Director of Southwark Primary Care Trust.

On her new appointment, Ruth said: “I am thrilled to be joining Solihull Council early next year and working with such a great council and community. There are lots of exciting initiatives underway and on the horizon within public health, and I am very much looking forward to leading these and seeing the positive outcomes for local residents.”

Ruth takes up the post on 2 January, replacing Dr Stephen Munday who left the authority in May.
