Two new allotment sites to open in 2009!
We are currently working towards opening new allotment sites at Chadwick End and Holly Lane in Balsall Common in 2009. Please contact us if you would like to add your name to the waiting list for plots at either of these sites.

Accessible garden

The accessible leisure garden at Ralph Road Allotments helps make it possible for less mobile people and wheelchair users to garden. Created on an unused allotment plot the garden was opened in 2004 and is now enjoyed by two groups of people with physical and learning disabilities.

Britain in Bloom

Britain in Bloom features highly in the Allotment Calendar as the Royal Horticultural Society judges request a visit to one of the Borough's allotment sites each year. In July 2008 tenants at Shakespeare Drive produced a horticultural delight for the judges to view and led an educational visit around the site. The judges said that the site should be promoted locally as a model of good management practice.

Shirley and District

The Shirley and District Allotment Society offer allotment members discounted seeds and equipment at their Ralph Road site, open from 10am-12pm on Sunday's (only the first Sunday in the month during November-March). If you would like further details, please contact the Chairperson on 0121 745 9633.

A newsletter for all allotment holders is published every April and October giving everyone the chance to share gardening tips and see what goes on at different sites around the Borough.

Working Party

A working party has been set up to look at ongoing improvement in the maintenance and enhancement of allotments in Solihull. Meetings are conducted on a quarterly basis and are made up of a representative from each of the allotment sites, our Streetcare contractor Enterprise Plc and a Solihull Council Officer. These meetings are of great value and the benefits of partnership working play dividends. The party looks at issues such as the Best Value Review, the Allotment Charter, maintenance work, improvement work, promotion and good practices.

If you would like to get involved with the working party, please contact us with your details.
