Solihull Parks Directory - Shirley Park
Shirley Park
Location: Shirley, Stratford Road, Hurdis Road
Shirley Park lies in the hub of Shirley, a busy shopping area, but remains a tranquil hidden secret. It provides welcome relief to the hustle and bustle and is ideal for a family picnic. There are a wide range of activities, which can be pursued in the Park, including pitch and putt, and a range of events through out the summer months.

The Park was originally home to farmland, which was bought up in 1927. More recently, additional features were introduced which include an ornamental garden and formal walkways. Improvements have been such that the Park was awarded Green Flag Status in 2003 and 2004, a national award recognising quality Park management and the importance the community plays in the Park.

Near by: Palmers Rough Local Nature Reserve
Location: Access on foot via Olton Road and Rothwell Drive, via car from Jacey Road and Northbrook Road
Palmers Rough covers an area of 6.5 hectares and consists of two blocks of woodland separated and partly surrounded by areas of open spaces. A wide range of plants and animals makes Palmers Rough an interesting place and was therefore granted Local Nature Reserve status in 2000. The presence of Palmers Rough within the Doomsday Book, suggests that the woodland dates back over 900 years.
A walk through the woods is especially rewarding in spring when the bluebells produces a vivid carpet of colour. It is also possible to view wildfowl as the pond is used on a frequent basis by our feathered friends.
