Development Plans
The term 'Development Plan' has particular importance in planning legislation. Most planning decisions (including planning applications) have to use the contents of the Statutory Development Plan as their starting point before other considerations are taken into account.
The Development Plan consists of a number of documents. Each one may be amended or replaced over time.
At present the Development Plan for Solihull comprises:- Regional Spatial Strategy and Unitary Development Plan (UDP). Additional guidance which stems from the policies or proposal of the UDP is called supplementary planning guidance (supplementary planning documents within a Local Development Framework (LDF) under the new Planning System).
This new system of plan-making was introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Under the provisions of this Act, the Council is producing a Local Development Framework (part of the new Development Plan system).

Solihull's LDF
The planning system was revised in September 2004 and the Council's UDP policies and proposals will now gradually be replaced by a folder of different planning policy and proposal documents known as a Local Development Framework. Until such time as the UDP is replaced it will remain part of the LDF. -
