  • Plans for Shirley Town Centre submitted.  A planning application has been submitted for development at Shirley Town Centre.  The plans were submitted on 30th July 2010 by developers Shirley Advance and are available for inspection at Shirley Library. The plans will also be available at Solihull Connect and on-line.  The deadline for comments on the planning application is Monday 13th September 2010.  The plans will be available for inspection at the library throughout that period.  Planning Officers will then consider all representations received and the technical evidence submitted by Shirley Advance, and prepare a report for consideration by the Council’s Planning Committee.  This is expected to take place in the autumn.   • Application of wider interest.  The council has received planning application 2010/694 in Meriden for the "Change of use of land to a Gypsy site for 14 pitches to site 14 mobile homes, 14 touring caravans and ancillary development including a day room building and vehicle parking on each pitch".  To view the application in detail please visit the applications page.   • Recent Changes to Planning Law.  Please note that a number of changes to planning legislation took effect on 6th April 2010.  These include new Government guidance on information requirements and validation of planning applications, expansion of the range of development that is exempt from the requirement for a design and access statement, changes to the General Development Procedure Order (GDPO) including amended time limits for certain categories of appeal, the introduction of a new use class (C4), and definition, for a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) - change of use from a dwelling house to a HMO needs planning permission & Additional permitted development rights for industrial and warehouse development, schools and colleges, offices, and retail premises, enabling small buildings and extensions, hard surfacing, and other limited operational development subject to limitations and conditions.  For more information please visit our dedicated page for changes to planning law.   • Technical issues resolved.  We have now resolved the technical issue with large format plans online.  The service should now be back to normal. (06/04/10)
  • Technical Issues with Online Service.  We are currently having technical issues scanning large format plans that are sized A2, A1 and A0. This means that plans and drawings of this size may not appear on the website within the normal timescale. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to have the missing documents online as soon as possible. Please note that plans and documents previously published are still available for download. (30/03/10)
  • Changes to the planning fees regulations with effect, Friday 26th February.  Changes to the planning fees regulations took effect on Friday 26th February.  The amendments introduce a fee for new applications for non-material amendments of £25 for householder applications and £170 in any other case.  They also introduce a new fee for applicants wishing to apply for a grant of a replacement planning permission subject to a new time limit - the new fee for such applications is £50 for householder applications; £500 for major developments; and £170 in any other case.   Finally, the amendments also reduce the maximum fee payable for applications under Schedule 1, Part 2 category 9(b) of the fees regulations from the previous £250,000 to £1,690.  (01/03/10)
  • Change to planning legislation. New rules governing Non-material amendments and extensions to time limits will come into force on the 1st October 2009.  The changes cover planning permissions which are extant both on 1 October and at the date of application and have not yet commenced.  From 1 October it will also be possible to apply to make non-material amendments to existing planning permissions under s.96A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (introduced by s.190 of the Planning Act 2008).  For more information please visit the Non-Material amendments & extensions to time limits page.  (01/10/09)
