Solihull Play Strategy
The Solihull Play Strategy Group believe that:
- Play should be local, accessible and safe.
- Play is what children do when not being told what to do by adults.
- Play is about freedom of choice, about fun and about friends.
- Play is instinctive in all of us, and individual.
Play is a vital part of childhood and adolescence and Solihull will strive to ensure that it provides the best opportunities for its children and young people.
A range of partners from the play sector, education, childcare, police, parks, health, libraries and children's services developed a Play Strategy and Action Plan in 2006. This document states the action Solihull will take to continue and develop more play provision.
The priorities for action for 2006 - 2009 are:
- Raise the profile of play
- Particular focus for 5-11 year olds
- Ensure that information on play provision is accurate, up to date, and easily accessible
- Involve a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies in developing play provision
- Ensure that play opportunities are genuinely inclusive, and promote equality and diversity.
- Involve children, young people and parents in planning to create new, challenging and exciting play opportunities for children.
