'The Future is Ours' Older People Strategy for Solihull
'The Future is Ours' is about improving the quality of life for all older people in the borough of Solihull. It has been prepared in line with our task of giving community leadership and promoting well being and addresses the totality of needs of older people.
We want to raise the profile of older people and challenge the assumptions that many people have about older people. This strategy is not about how old we are but how we grow older. It is about:
- Leading fulfilling lives - being part of the community and cultural life
- Challenging Age Discrimination
- Having enough to live on - tackling inequalities and regeneration
- Staying independent and getting out and about
- Being in control and having choices - advocacy and support
- Getting help when it is needed - family, friends, communities, services
- Receiving quality services and value for money
- Active citizenship - a place at the table and a real say about priorities
Older people are the largest single population group in the borough but they are a very diverse group. We want to ensure that their needs as individuals and as a group are recognised, respected and receive a response.
We need your continuing help in finding ways forward. This Strategy sets the direction of travel for the next 8 years but we require your on-going involvement to ensure that the actions are implemented.
