This is the privacy statement for the Request a benefit claim form.

How we will use your information

The personal information that you provide will be used by the Council to send you a claim form for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction.

Who else it will be shared with

Your personal information may be shared with authorised external bodies and partner organisations such as the Department of Works and Pensions and the Inland Revenue, as allowed by the law. It may, as necessary, be shared with the Social Care Financial Assessment Team, Supporting People team, Free School Meals team and Solihull Community Housing.

It may also be shared with other Council services and partner organisations to ensure our records are kept accurate and help us to identify services you may be entitled to or interested in.

How long it will be kept

The information you submit will not be kept for any longer than is needed. The length of time will depend upon whether the Council has a business need for keeping the information and/or if the law requires that we keep the information for a particular length of time.

Your personal information will be held by Income and Awards for up to 7 years. The information will then be disposed of as confidential waste.

How we will ensure it is accurate

You must inform Income and Awards of any changes of circumstances and your records will be amended to reflect these.

To ensure that the information we hold about you is accurate we will  carry out reviews Your claim for Housing and/or Council Tax Benefit will be reviewed periodically within a three year cycle.

How we will safeguard it

The information will be kept in a secure office environment. It will be held on computer databases that can only be accessed by authorised members of Council staff.
