All this equals one of the UK's biggest ever regeneration projects.

What is it?

Regenerating North Solihull is our 15-year project to transform the lives of the 40,000 people living in the three wards of Chelmsley Wood, Smith's Wood and Kingshurst & Fordbridge. This will happen by improving homes, shops, schools, health and community facilities, transport, the environment and creating jobs:

  • Changing almost 40,000 people's lives for the better
  • £1.8 billion public and private investment over the next 15 years
  • 8,500 new modern homes
  • New, state-of-the-art primary schools
  • Vibrant village centres delivering key services

Why are you doing it?

Solihull is the most polarised borough in the country:

  • On average, people in the North of the borough die ten years before those in the South.
  • Children are three times more likely to be killed in a road accident than their peers in the South.
  • Around half of the population in the North have no access to a car, have no qualifications.

We decided this was not acceptable - people living in our borough deserve more. But we knew we couldn't make the changes needed on our own. So in 2002 we started a long journey to find others to work with us. In 2005 the North Solihull Partnership was born.

The North Solihull Partnership

The North Solihull Partnership was specifically set up to manage this project, they are:

  • Ourselves - Solihull Council
  • Bellway Homes - a leading UK house builder with more than 50 years' experience.
  • Inpartnership Ltd - an investment-led regeneration company.
  • Whitefriars Housing - a Coventry-based not-for-profit housing and regeneration organisation that owns and manages approximately 18,000 homes.

See the North Solihull Partnership website for up to date information about what is happening with this project.

Why are you re-building primary schools?

New schools that meet the needs of local children are at the heart of this programme.

The new schools will meet the Government's standards and will have 420 places in a two-form entry system and offer 60 half-time nursery places. All schools will also offer facilities for the local community, including affordable, high quality childcare for all children aged 3-11, from 8am to 6pm, all year round.

These modern, state-of-the-art schools will become the hub of the local community. As well as building new primary schools, we are also rebuilding all of the secondary schools in the area.
