SISS - Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties Team

The Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties (ESBD) Team provides support for children and young people in schools with challenging behaviour, immature socials skills and emotional difficulties.

The team consists of a Team Manager, Lead Professionals for Primary ESBD and for Secondary ESBD, specialist ESBD advisory teachers and a Play Therapist. In addition there are three ESBD Inclusion Support Practitioners who have the relevant skills and qualifications to support children with emotional and social difficulties and challenging behaviour for negotiated periods of time in nurseries or schools.

The ESBD Team works with children and young people, their parents and carers, schools and settings. All schools have a 'named' teacher from the ESBD Team. Support for children in maintained nurseries and primary schools is flexibly deployed according to the individual needs of the child. Each secondary school has an annual allocation of time that they can use to prioritise their training and support needs by negotiation with the ESBD 'named' teacher. The ESBD team also provides borough wide training in both mainstream and Special schools for restraint through the 'Team Teach' approach.

Referral to the ESBD Team is through the Specialist Inclusion Support Service referral form. Schools and settings or other professional agencies can make referrals.
