The Annual Review of your child's Statement of Special Educational Needs
Information about Special Educational Needs
When your child has a Statement it is important to make sure that it continues to meet their special educational needs. Your child's Statement is reviewed at least once a year and is called the Annual Review.
Collecting Information
Your child's school will invite you to send in your views about your child's progress or concerns over the past year. The school may also ask for the written views of other professionals who know and work with your child. Before the Review meeting, you will be sent copies of all the advice they have received.
Holding an Annual Review Meeting
Your child's school will tell you the date of the meeting and invite you to attend. It may also be helpful for your child to attend at least part of the meeting. The Review meeting will normally be held at your child's school. At the meeting, you, your child, teachers and other professionals who know and work with your child, will look at how your child has progressed towards the goals set out after the Statement was first written. After listening to everyone's views at the meeting, the school will summarise the advice and recommendations in a Review Report.
The School Report of the Annual Review Meeting
After listening to everyone's views at the Review meeting the school will set new targets. The school send the Review Report to us at the Inclusion and Access Team within ten days of the meeting (or by the end of term, whichever is sooner). You, and everyone invited to the Review, will be sent a copy of the Report.
What Happens Next?
Once we have received a copy of the school review report we will decide whether we should make any changes to your child's Statement.
