Applying for a voluntary-aided school
You can apply for a nursery, reception, junior or secondary place at a voluntary-aided school by including it as a preference on your application form. The governing body of each school is responsible for deciding how it offers places. We offer places on behalf of the governing body.
Each voluntary-aided school has its own admissions criteria. These can be obtained from the school or from the link below. We will tell the voluntary-aided school about all the children who have applied for places at their school. The governing bodies of these schools will then consider the applications against their admission criteria.
When you apply for a place at a voluntary-aided school you will normally have to provide evidence of your faith or religious commitment. You may need to attach a copy of your child’s baptism certificate or a signed letter from a priest or minister. Some schools ask for a supplementary form to be filled in. You must check the admissions criteria for the school you want to apply for a place at.
The Schools Adjudicator has carried out a scrutiny of all admission arrangements for 2009. As a result some schools have made slight amendments to the admission arrangements published in the Secondary Education 2009 and Primary Education 2009 booklets. The correct admission arrangements for 2009, for all schools who are their own admissions authority, can be seen on the links below.
If the policy does say otherwise then these definitions will apply.
