Snow clearance

We always try to clear main roads and bus routes of snow and apply grit or salt to make sure everyone can keep moving across Solihull. We are in regular contact with weather information providers throughout the winter so that we can try to anticipate severe weather conditions.

When there is up to 100mm / 4 inches of undisturbed snow, we'll give priority to footpaths in the town centres of:

  • Chelmsley Wood
  • Dorridge
  • Hobs Moat
  • Knowle
  • Marston Green
  • Shirley
  • Solihull

We'll then focus on the town centre footpaths in:

  • Balsall Common
  • Berkswell
  • Castle Bromwich
  • Hampton in Arden
  • Hockley Heath
  • Kingshurst
  • Meriden

Footpaths outside bus and railway stations, schools and hospitals will also be treated, as will commercial areas of the borough as resources are available.

Clearing snow and ice yourself

In recent winters, many people helped keep pavements and public spaces around their homes clear of snow. There is no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your property, pathways to your property or public spaces.

If an accident did happen, it's highly unlikely that you would be sued as long as you:

  • are careful
  • use common sense to make sure that you don't make the pavement or pathway clearly more dangerous than before
