Changes to Lode Lane Car Park

What are we doing?

Following on from the Pay and Display trial in Mell Square Car Park, in April 2013, we are proposing to introduce a P&D system to Lode Lane car park. The current Pay on Foot barriers in the car park will be removed, and P&D machines will be installed.

The machines will accept credit card payments and a new Pay by Phone system that works in conjunction with the P&D machines will be introduced in the car park. This will provide customers with a variety of improved payment methods.

The trial is set to run for three months over the spring and summer of 2013. If deemed successful, consideration will be given to permanently using P&D in this car park. This decision will be made by the Council in September 2013.

We will be allowing people a 20 minutes grace period if they need to acquire some change or are worried they may be late returning to the car park.

Blue Badge Holders will be able to park for free in any space within the car park as long as they display their Blue Badge. There is no time limit imposed on their stay.

To feed back on the consultation, please visit http://www.solihull.gov.uk/tro/16878.htm, alternatively you may email your comments to tro@solihull.gov.uk.

Why have we chosen to trial Pay & Display?

The Council needs to deliver more cost effective ways of managing its services. The introduction of pay and display will help the parking service to reduce its operating costs, whilst still offering good quality and affordable parking in Solihull Town Centre.

How will this improve the service?

People will have a variety of ways to pay for their parking – see below. Also there will be less queues as there will be no barriers controlling the car park entrance and exit, so customers can drive in and out of the car park without queuing. This has improved traffic flow within the car park and enables customers to exit quickly. There will also be more payment machines.
