Solihull's Cycling Strategy
Our Cycling Strategy aims to deliver:
A culture where cycling will be a popular mainstream mode of travel for local journeys.
To this end, we are involved in creating: -
- New routes for utility trips and leisure rides.
- Support for national cycling campaigns.
- Cycle training courses.
- Cycle parking facilities.
- Liaison with local cycling groups.
- Maps and booklets about cycling in the Borough.
How are cycle routes marked?
Cycle Routes are generaly indicated by signs and markings. They may be either on the carriageway, on footways either shared with or segregated from pedestrians, or specially designated cycle paths.
What cycle routes are there in Solihull?
Solihull Cycling Map
Residents are urged to get on their bikes with the help of the borough's first-ever comprehensive cycling map and guide. Dozens of recommended routes can be found in the free double-sided guide, which covers every single street and public building in the borough. Created by Solihull Cycling Steering Group in conjunction with CycleCity Guides, the colour publication also contains a whole host of practical information and safety tips.
The guide has been designed to cater for cyclists of all ages and capabilities. All of the routes are colour-coded to show their nature and also level of difficulty. It is hoped it will become an essential tool for anybody who is planning a bike ride, whether they're a novice, experienced cyclist or returning to biking after a break.
Copies of the guide are available from all libraries across Solihull, the Tourist Information Centre and Solihull Connect in Library Square.
Alternatively contact our Cycling & Sustainable Transport Officer on 0121 704 8291 or email mstockman@solihull.gov.uk to request a guide.

RideTogether is an opportunity to ride one of the routes with a member of the Solihull Cycling Steering Group - a great way to get to know the route and cycle with others.
