Rights of Way Improvement Plan

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CRoW) 2000 placed a duty on all Highway Authorities to produce a Rights of Way Improvement Plan for their area by November 2007.

The plan is intended to be a strategic document that will provide the means over a ten year period for a local Highways Authority to identify and propose management strategies in order to improve public rights of way and access to the countryside.

As part of the development of this plan, we have been required to create a statement of actions, which sets out local priorities and actions that we propose to take to improve access within the borough.

The statement of action and its associated action plan has been formulated following extensive consultation with members of the public, network users and stakeholder organisations. From feedback, seven themes have been identified into which the various identified actions have been grouped.

The seven highlighted themes are:

  • Signage
  • Network Maintenance
  • Promotion and information availability
  • Practical Access
  • Creating network links
  • Road Crossings
  • Records

The first Solihull Rights of Way Improvement Plan was published on the 23rd January 2008 following its approval at the Transport and Highways Cabinet Member Decision Session in January 2008. The plan is available to view and download using the various links on the right hand side of this page with hard copies being made available in Libraries throughout the borough from February 2008.

For further information on this plan please contact the Walking and Rights of Way Officer on 0121 704 6429 or email mailto: dkeaney@solihull.gov.uk
