Roads - school crossing patrols
Information about school crossing patrols, how to request a patrol and how to become a Crossing Warden.
Frequently Asked Questions
School Crossing patrols are a familiar sight on our roads. They help children cross roads safely on their way to and from school and they are valued members of the community. The law changed in 2001, which means that patrols are able to help anyone cross the road, not just children.
Can I request a School Crossing Patrol?
Requests for additional sites should be made to the School Crossing Patrol Supervisor on 0121 704 6568 or by using our Contact Us Form.
Following a request we will survey the area to see if it meets the national criteria, which includes a vehicle and pedestrian count.
How do you decide where to place a School Crossing Patrol?
School Crossing Patrols are provided where children are in danger from road traffic when walking to and from school. This is not necessarily directly outside a school but could be anywhere on a direct route.
