Are you worried about domestic violence?
Domestic abuse can present in many different ways. The most obvious form of abuse is actual physical violence but we also recognise that other forms of abuse such as emotional abuse (calling names, continually criticising, threatening etc), and financial abuse (restricting access to money or requiring a person to account for every penny spent), can often leave a survivor suffering with low self-esteem and a feeling of hopelessness about the relationship. We also recognise that domestic abuse can have a detrimental effect on the health of the victim and other family members.
We are learning more about the effect of an abusive relationship on children who often witness incidents and live with the stress that exists in a household where abuse is commonplace.
