Preparation is essential before introducing Work-Life Balance into your business. The following steps help to provide a framework to use, which outlines the necessary steps for successful introduction of Work-Life Balance into the business.
Step 1 - Commitment
Management and policy decisions will commit the organisation to a systematic approach to Work-Life Balance. The business will be committed to establishing working arrangements which allow people to achieve a satisfactory Work-Life Balance, to the benefit of the business.
Step 2 - Identify Core Business Needs
Think about the situation in your business. What is it that your employees would like to help them achieve balance? It may be you cannot answer these questions without talking to staff or carrying out a survey. Gather the relevant data to inform and review the current working arrangements in order to decide whether changes would improve the business.
Step 3 - Systems / Planning
Systems will be in place to achieve the results expected from introducing Work-Life Balance arrangements. Construct written procedures and plans for these arrangements for example: including appropriate education and training of managers.
Step 4 - Action / Implementation
The business will have a clear and systematic approach to the implementation and deployment of Work-Life Balance arrangements. The business will demonstrate that such arrangements are in place and are used, in accordance with policy and strategy
Step 5 - Review & Evaluation
The business will understand and be able to demonstrate through review and assessment, the impact of its Work-Life Balance arrangements upon the performance of people and the business. Manager's performance related to the achievement of Work-Life Balance for them and their teams will be reviewed regularly.
