Nature of work
The Service provides, on referral, a framework for the clinical assessment, prescription and provision of appropriate wheelchairs and postural support systems to adults, young persons and children with disabilities and a range of medical needs.
Assessments are undertaken by an Occupational Therapist and/or a Rehabilitation Engineer and will include assessment of an individual’s social, work, educational and environmental needs to provide the most appropriate solution.
The Service also provides items of community equipment prescribed and requested by health and social care practitioners authorised to do so for the benefit of people for use in their own home or chosen place of residence. Equipment can enable people to live independently, help them with their care, recover quickly from illness or improve their quality of life.
The Service also arranges appropriate repair and maintenance services for the equipment provided and follows the CECOPS national code of practice for disability equipment, wheelchair and seating services.

In order to understand your needs fully and enable us to provide a safe and efficient service, information will be used for a limited number of purposes and always in line with our responsibilities to enable us to:
- Assess posture and mobility needs
- Provide equipment for use in the home
- Provide maintenance and repairs for loaned equipment
- Collect the equipment when it is no longer needed
- Communicate with people using the service, or their carers/representatives
- Help improve our services
- Plan for future provision of services

- Persons contracted to provide a service

To enable us to meet your equipment needs and support your wider care & support needs we may share information with:
- Health care professionals such as nurses, GP’s and hospitals
- NHS, including your GP and hospitals
- Social care professionals
- Equipment suppliers and manufacturers
- Equipment repair & maintenance agencies
- Family, carers or representatives of the person whose personal data we are processing
- Emergency services
- Care providers, for example, care agencies or residential care homes
How long we will keep your information
- Adults - seven years after closure of the case.
- Children - twenty five years after closure of the case.
Transfers Overseas
Information may be transferred overseas to service user's family members or representatives.
