Meriden Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan receives a ‘yes’ vote at referendum and is now ‘made’

The Meriden Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan Referendum was held on Thursday 6th May 2021. Residents eligible to vote were asked “‘Do you want Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Meriden Parish to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Area?’

The referendum result showed clear support for the Neighbourhood Plan with a total of 756 votes cast in favour (83.22 %), and 127 votes against.

The Neighbourhood Plan was formally ’made’ by the Council at Full Cabinet on 17 June 2021. It will now be used by the Local Planning Authority to help it determine planning applications in the Neighbourhood Area. The Decision Statement and Neighbourhood Plan can be viewed below.

Meriden Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan

Following an independent examination of the Meriden Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan, the Council has agreed that the Plan (as modified to accord with the agreed recommendations of the Independent Examiner) should proceed to referendum.

The referendum on the Meriden Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan took place on 6 May 2021.

Examiner’s Letter Seeking Clarification of Matters

Meriden Neighbourhood Plan Submission Examination

The Independent Examination of the Meriden Neighbourhood Plan started on 2 December 2020. You can view the Examiner’s Initial letter setting out how the Examination will proceed.

Meriden Parish Council formally submitted its Submission Draft Neighbourhood Development Plan to the Council for public consultation in March 2020. However, due to restrictions in place as result of Covid-19, consultation had to be postponed.

The Regulation 16 consultation on the Meriden Submission Draft Neighbourhood Development Plan ran for a period of 8 weeks from Monday 29 June until Monday 24 August 2020, and representations were submitted to the council.
