Student loans and allowances

Student finance

Student Finance England is responsible for processing all applications for student loans and grants for higher education courses, including the disabled students allowance.

16 to 19 Bursary Fund

The Government has set aside some money for schools, colleges, training providers and local authorities to allocate to young people needing financial support to stay in further education or training.

Called the 16 to 19 bursary fund, it can be used to help with education-related costs that may arise during the school year, including essentials such as meals during the day or transport to your school or college.

24+ advanced learning loans

You can apply for a 24+ advanced learning loan to help with the costs of a college or training course if you’re aged 24 or older.

The course must start after 1 August 2013 and be a level 3 or 4 course (such as an A-level) or an advanced or higher apprenticeship.

Loans have to be paid back but you won’t have to pay anything back until you earn more than £21,000 a year.
