Solihull approves new taxi licensing policy

Solihull Council’s Licensing Committee approved a new policy for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire applicants at its meeting on 12 February 2020.

The revised policy took note of the 600 plus responses to the consultation.  The comments and a report summarising the feedback from the consultation can be found on the webpage here.

The new policy for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire applicants and licence holders can also be found on the webpage here.

Councillor Alison Rolf, Cabinet Member for Stronger & Safer Communities, said:

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation.  All your comments have helped us develop a robust and proportionate new policy which will be introduced from 1 April 2020. The reason behind having this policy in place is to ensure the safety of those using Solihull Council licensed hackney carriages and private hire vehicles within the borough.

“As the body responsible for issuing licences that allow people to work as taxi drivers, it is vital that we only grant a licence to those who are fit and proper.  We have the ultimate test that if it were our son, daughter or other relative using a Solihull licensed taxi driver, that we would be happy for that person to be driving them.”
