Solihull residents are invited to explore their family history with two new courses being run at The Core Library.
There are two courses available: the First Steps in Family History (beginners) and the Further Steps in Family History (Intermediate).
First Steps, which begins on Thursday 3 October from 2-4pm for seven weeks, will explain the process of researching a family tree from scratch. Attendees will be taught how to organise files and how to find and use essential records, as well as how to use the websites Ancestry and Find My Past.
Further Steps begins on Wednesday 18 September from 10.30am-12.30pm and will run fortnightly until Wednesday 11 December. This course will help those who have traced their family back to at least the early 1800s in England & Wales. The course will cover topics such as workhouses, military records, migration crime, land and property, as well as that all important question - “What do I do when I have run out of records?”
People can book the courses online at www.solihull.gov.uk/familyhistorycourses or in person at The Core’s Box Office. Each course costs £82.
