Local homelessness campaign gets £5k cash boost from Renewal and Touchwood

Local homelessness campaign, Change into Action, has been given a massive cash boost thanks to a £3k donation from local church Renewal and a £2k donation from Touchwood.

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Solihull Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health said: “Although Solihull has very few people who regularly sleep rough, we have higher numbers of people who are homeless and at risk of sleeping rough who local services are supporting. We launched Change into Action last year to give additional support to organisations already helping those at risk to avoid homelessness and improve their lives. Thanks to the generosity of Touchwood and Renewal, we will be able to give more support to those most in need.”

Councillor Alison Rolf, Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Stronger and Safer Communities added: “Change into Action works to support people off the streets and back into the community. Local groups that support homeless people can apply for funding to support people in need and transform lives. This can be anything from help with accommodation to new clothing and training for jobs. Or it could be a new project that needs some funding to get it started – we’re open to ideas.”

Anyone can donate to Change into Action at www.changeintoaction.org.uk/solihull

Change into Action is an Alternative Giving Scheme being piloted across Solihull, supporting specialist organisations and outreach services working to change the circumstances of rough sleepers and those at risk of becoming rough sleepers.

Change into Action is a partnership between Solihull Council, the Mayor of the West Midlands and the West Midlands Combined Authority aimed at designing out homelessness within this region. All donations are kindly received and held by Solihull Churches Action on Homelessness (SCAH) before being awarded to local services working with rough sleepers or those at risk of sleeping rough.
