A local authority perspective on Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM)

'From Trials to Transformation? A Local Authority Perspective on Connected Automated Mobility' is a paper by:

  • C. Maltby and A. Smith of Solihull Council
  • M. Shelton of Transport for West Midlands
  • D. Clarke of Greater Cambridge Partnership

It represents the collective voice of leading local authorities (LA) on Connected Automated Mobility (CAM) and its implications for roads, communities and transport services.

It draws on learnings from LAs and highlights risks and strategic opportunities relating to the integration of CAM into transport systems. It also discusses:

  • public sector leadership
  • deployment
  • potential obstacles for bus-like CAM and the need for coordinated strategy
  • learning and investment to ensure CAM can support public sector goals

The paper recommends a national strategy relating to the future roll-out of CAM services, transparent learning and reporting mechanisms and structured cross-sector collaboration.
