Grave reinstatement programme

The contractor will commence the removal of grave mounds with no decorations on Monday 10 August 2026. This work will be carried out across our cemeteries over several weeks to prepare graves for reinstatement. 

The application of soil and seeding will not commence until Monday 7 September 2026. At this point, prepared graves will be restored as part of the Council's annual grounds maintenance programme. 

The overall programme is expected to take up to 12 weeks to complete subject to weather conditions.

Removal of decorations

To enable the grounds staff to carry out the works and to safeguard any decorations that you have placed on the grave mound, please remove these by Friday 4 September 2026.

Decorations may be placed on the slabs, concrete, or gravelled area at the head of the grave.

If you are unable to remove decorations yourself, the grounds staff will relocate smaller items to the head of the grave where possible. 

Any grave frames will be disposed of, as we do not have sufficient storage space, and these are not permitted on grassed areas.

We cannot accept responsibility for any damage, loss, or breakage. If you have concerns about the condition of any items, we recommend that you remove them.
