The Mayor’s chosen charities

Find out about the Mayor's chosen charities and how you can donate.

Each year, the Mayor of Solihull chooses a charity or charities they wish to support during their one-year term in office.

This year, the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa MBE JP, has selected:

  • Age UK Solihull
  • OVOS (Our Voice, Our Services)

Age UK Solihull

Age UK Solihull supports older people within the borough to experience the best possible quality of life.

They offer a range of services including:

  • confidential information and advice
  • befriending service
  • technological advice
  • help with debt and money problems

Age UK Solihull also holds regular social activities for older Solihull residents at various social clubs, pubs and parks around Solihull, so they can meet new people and get to know the charity’s volunteers.

The CEO of Age UK Solihull, Anne Hastings, expressed her gratitude to the Mayor of Solihull for selecting them as one of his chosen charities:

“We’re absolutely over the moon – it was such good news when we found out the new Mayor had chosen to support us. It will make an invaluable difference to our charity fundraising and the publicity we’ll gain over the Mayor’s year in office.”

OVOS (Our Voice, Our Services)

OVOS supports care experienced children and young people in Solihull by:

  • ensuring their voices are heard in the design and delivery of local authority services
  • providing opportunities to socialise, learn new life skills and attend fun events

It is supported by our Children’s Services department.

The manager of the OVOS team, Yvonne Obaidy, shared how thankful she was to the Mayor for selecting OVOS as one of his chosen charities:

“The work that OVOS does across Solihull has helped and continues to help so many care experienced children and young people throughout the years. It ensures our children can have fun in a safe and supportive setting, where their voices are heard, respected, and acted on to bring about meaningful change to the services they receive. Being one of the Mayor’s chosen charities will make such a valuable difference to our fundraising and the publicity we’ll gain over the Mayor’s year in office.”
