ePress FAQ

FAQ for the ePress service from Borrowbox

Here are some questions you might have regarding the Borrowbox ePress service

Why are you changing the suppliers?

Due to OverDrive’s decision to remove eMagazines from PressReader, Solihull Libraries have taken the decision to move our eMagazine and eNewspaper content to Bolinda’s ePress service through Borrowbox.
This means that all of your eAudiobook, eBook, eMagazine and eNews content will now be available through one single app/ website, making it easier to find the content you’re interested in.

Will there be any changes to the titles available?

We acknowledge that a very small number of titles that were available through PressReader will not be available through ePress. Some of these, such as the Economist, are locked into an exclusive deal and cannot be offered by other platforms. However, Bolinda are actively looking to obtain ‘missing’ titles where possible, so these may be available in future.
The Daily and Sunday Telegraph are still available via Newsbank, which also contains the Times/Sunday Times and Sun/Sun on Sunday

Will the new service offer any improvements?

All our digital content is now in one easy to use app (or website). There’s no need for multiple accounts.
There will be new content appearing, and titles such as the Birmingham Mail appear sooner than previously.

What apps do I need?

You will need the Borrowbox app for ePress, there is also a website version. If you are using our eBooks and eAudiobooks service currently then it’s the same app.

As with PressReader you will need your library account number and PIN to log in, if you don’t have your PIN or have any problems then contact us at 247library@solihull.gov.uk

Will my existing library account work with ePress?

Yes. If you don’t have a Solihull library membership, you can join online at https://solihull.spydus.co.uk and access ePress immediately.

Can I set to receive new issues as they come out?

Yes, you can subscribe to individual titles and they will automatically appear in the MyLoans section of the app

How long will I have to read the titles?

Initially 3 weeks, but you can renew them or reborrow them.

How many issues can I download?

The limit is 100 issues, this allows for customers using multiple newspaper subscriptions.

I can not access the BorrowBox app – why?

You will need to ensure that your device is up to date and is compatible with the app. Check in the AppStore or GoogleStore to see if your app needs updating.

Can I use BorrowBox on my laptop, PC or Mac?

Yes, you can. Rather than using the app, you can go to the BorrowBox website at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Library Service - BorrowBox. You’ll be able to log in, browse and borrow from the collection.

What time are new issues of daily eNewspapers available?

All daily issues should be available from 8am, however, on occasion some papers may appear earlier than this time.

Why can’t I see today’s edition of a newspaper/the latest edition of a magazine on BorrowBox?

Daily editions of eNewspaper titles become available at different times, depending on their publisher. All daily issues should be available from 8am, however, on occasion some papers may appear earlier than this time.

If you have borrowed AND subscribed to a publication, you should see the latest edition in your ‘Home’ section each day.

If you choose just to borrow an issue, you will have this issue for three weeks/until you return it, but you will not automatically see new editions in your ‘Home’ section.

Can I see back issues and supplements?

Back issues of many titles are available, although how far back past issues go will vary by individual title and publisher. When you search for a title, you can see what back issues are also available.

Supplements, if available for a particular title, appear at the end of the edition. Unfortunately, not all supplements are currently available – for example, You Magazine from The Mail on Sunday.
