Solihull is known for its attractive green open spaces and leafy suburbs. This new plan sets out clearly defined parameters around public open space contribution requirements for future developments.

This document builds upon Policy P20 ‘Provision for Open Space, Children’s Play, Sport, Recreation and Leisure’ of the 2013 Solihull Local Plan. It is intended to give greater clarity to the public and planning applicants on what is expected in terms of open space provision.

This consultation is an opportunity to help shape the document before a final version is presented to the Cabinet Portfolio Holder for consideration.

The consultation survey will run from Friday 7 November until 5pm on Friday 19 December 2025

Hard copies of the consultation document are also available to view at all Solihull Connect Centres.

Cllr Andy Mackiewicz, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Planning, said:

“In Solihull, we are really proud of our high-quality green open space, and as new developments come forward it is essential that we are able to maintain the borough’s unique character.

“With this new draft document, we want to make sure any new residential or commercial developments contribute towards public access to green open space, with the existing and future needs of the community in mind.

“I encourage everyone to read the draft plan and use this consultation to help make sure we get this right.”
