Kingshurst residents to enjoy a transformed new park

Work is getting underway on a complete upgrade of Kingshurst Park, delivering a modern, inclusive and welcoming green space for local people to enjoy.

The Kingshurst community will soon benefit from a total overhaul of the park’s facilities, shaped by feedback from local residents and community groups. Families can look forward to a brand-new play area featuring six bay swings, a circular swing, butterfly seesaw and an easily accessible new roundabout. The new play equipment will also include an adventure trail of trapeze walks, tyre traverses and rope walks.

Children and young people will also have access to a communication play panel and dedicated graffiti wall for creative play. A new shade sail near the play area will ensure families can rest comfortably on sunny days.

Walkers and cyclists will notice safer, resurfaced pathways throughout the park and a new connecting route towards the Mountfort site, that will improve accessibility for everyone.

Existing seating will be replaced with more inclusive benches and picnic tables, while new bins and a cycle stand will encourage cleaner, greener use of the space. Enhanced entrances and clearer sightlines, created by carefully lifting and trimming trees and hedges, will make the park feel more welcoming and open.

Underpinning these exciting improvements is a commitment to local wildlife and planting. Twelve new trees will be planted alongside bulbs and hedges, while bird, bat and insect boxes will encourage biodiversity and give residents a chance to connect with nature on their doorstep.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr Ken Hawkins, said:

“As part of the wider Kingshurst redevelopment, our Kingshurst Park Enhancements project is getting underway. This will deliver significant improvements to the existing park, creating a more welcoming and enjoyable space for the community.

“We’ve listened closely to what Kingshurst residents want, and this upgraded park will provide inclusive new play areas for children of all ages, tranquil spots for older visitors, and a greener, safer environment for everyone to relax in.”

Haystoun Construction Ltd. arrived on site on Monday 8 September to set up the works, which are expected to be completed in approximately 12 weeks. While the park will remain open throughout, certain areas will be temporarily sectioned off as improvements progress.

To keep disruption to a minimum, any loud machinery will only operate between 8am and 4:30pm on weekdays, and between 8:30am and 2:30pm on Saturdays if needed. Clear signage and temporary fencing will guide park users safely around active work zones.

The project is being made possible with funding secured by Solihull Council through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
