Mayor leads ribbon cutting celebration at Kingshurst Park

Kingshurst residents have officially welcomed the completion of the Kingshurst Park enhancement project, with the milestone marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony led by the Mayor of Solihull.

Local families, community groups and residents turned out to celebrate the transformation of the park, which has undergone a comprehensive upgrade to create a modern, inclusive and welcoming green space at the heart of the Kingshurst community.

The project, funded through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and delivered by Solihull Council, has introduced a wide range of new features shaped by local feedback.

A brand new play area now offers inclusive equipment such as swings, a butterfly seesaw, a roundabout and adventure trail, while new creative spaces including a graffiti wall and communication play panel have also been installed.

Walkers and cyclists benefit from resurfaced pathways and improved access routes, making the park safer and more accessible, and new benches, picnic tables, bins and cycle stands encourage cleaner, greener use of the space.

The park’s entrances have been enhanced with a new entrance feature on Marston Drive and careful landscaping to improve sightlines creating a more welcoming and open environment. Alongside these improvements, new trees, hedges and bulbs have been planted, and wildlife boxes installed to support biodiversity and help residents connect with nature.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Annette Mackenzie, said:

“It’s wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate the completion of this project. Kingshurst Park has been transformed into a vibrant, inclusive space that reflects the needs and aspirations of local people. This is a place where families can play, residents can relax, and nature can thrive. It feels like a true asset for the community.”

Cllr Ken Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, added:

“We are delighted to deliver these improvements as part of the wider regeneration of Kingshurst. The upgraded park provides something for everyone. It offers exciting new play areas for children, tranquil spaces for older residents, and enhanced habitats for local wildlife. This project shows what can be achieved when we listen to residents and invest in our communities.”

The completion of the Kingshurst Park enhancement project marks the latest milestone in the ongoing regeneration of Kingshurst village centre. A report setting out plans for the next phase of this wider scheme is set to go to Cabinet for consideration on Thursday 11 December.
