Solihull comes together for Remembrance Day 2025

The Mayor of Solihull visited the St Alphege Church knitted poppy installation earlier this month to commemorate this year’s Remembrance Day.

She has been around the borough at a number of events to mark this year’s Remembrance, selling poppies in Touchwood, and at the Dedication of the Cenotaph Ceremony in Knowle.

Last month, she also officially launched the annual Poppy Appeal in Shirley alongside the Shirley Royal British Legion, calling on the public to wear their poppies with pride in support of the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day.

This week, there will be a number of displays across the borough that bring local communities together to mark Remembrance Day. On Sunday 9 November, events will be taking place all over Solihull, including local Remembrance Sunday services and processions.

A list of road closures to accommodate the processions is available to view on the Council website.

Residents can also show their support and solidarity by completing a Remembrance Card to honour a loved one who served in the Armed Forces. Email heritage@solihull.gov.uk or visit The Core, to complete a card for inclusion in the commemorative display, which will be available to view at the Core Library from Wednesday 5 November.

The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Annette Mackenzie, added:

It is touching to see all the many wonderful display around Solihull for this year’s Remembrance Day. With our fantastic, knitted poppy installations throughout the borough, the return of the Core’s Remembrance Card display, and several poignant services running to commemorate this year’s Remembrance, I would encourage everyone in the local community pay their respects to our courageous service men and women whose sacrifices we must remember and respect.

Many local precessions and tributes will be taking place on Sunday 9 November so please be mindful of the road closures in place on that day.
