Solihull Council approves next stage of Kingshurst Village Centre Regeneration

Solihull Council has approved the next stage of the ambitious regeneration of Kingshurst Village Centre, marking another milestone in this community focused scheme.

At its Cabinet meeting on 11 December, councillors endorsed plans to move forward with detailed design work for Phase 2 of the project, which will see the creation of a new Community, Health and Retail (CHR) building, alongside six new houses and a new vicarage.

The CHR building will bring together vital services under one roof, including GP provision, public health services, a library, community spaces, and retail units. In addition, it provides the opportunity for Solihull Community Housing (SCH) to relocate from Endeavour House into the new building, ensuring the centre is fully utilised and financially sustainable.

The approved Cabinet report also unlocks funding of up to £340,000 to complete the design stage and prepare a Full Business Case and pave the way for construction to begin.

Cllr Ian Courts, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Managed Growth, said:

"This decision is a significant step forward in creating a thriving, modern village centre for Kingshurst. By bringing health, housing and community services together, we are investing in the wellbeing of residents and ensuring the centre is a place where everyone can thrive.

"Stage Two, and in particular the delivery of the CHR building, represents by far the most complex element of the overall scheme. It is the linchpin that will bring multiple services under one roof, and that complexity is precisely why it has taken time to get it right.”

The regeneration project has already delivered 25 new social rented homes at the former Mountfort Pub site, which recently won a regional award for Best Small Social Housing Development.

As part of the wider scheme, work to improve Kingshurst Park was recently completed, with new play equipment, planting, and pathways installed.

With Cabinet approval secured, the Council will now work with construction partner Willmott Dixon to finalise designs and costs. A start on site is anticipated in 2026, with the CHR building set to become a cornerstone of the community for generations to come.
