Solihull Council is partnering with Switch Together Energy, the national energy switching initiative formerly known as Big Community Switch, to help residents save money on their energy bills while accessing tariffs backed by 100% renewable electricity.
This scheme brings households together across the UK to negotiate exclusive, fixed-rate tariffs with fully vetted suppliers. By using the buying power of a large group, communities can secure better deals than anyone switching provider on their own.
Registrations open Monday 1 December 2025.
Cllr Andy Mackiewicz, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Planning, said:
“Under its previous name Big Community Switch, this scheme has been very effective in helping more than 7,580 residents save a staggering £1.921 million combined, as well as 3,687 tonnes of CO2 since 2015.
“Switch Together Energy continues this collective approach of pooling the purchasing power of the community to get a competitive deal on fixed-rate tariffs that are backed by renewable energy.”
Cllr Mark Parker, Cabinet Member for Housing, added:
“Taking action on household energy delivery is a priority as around a quarter of all carbon emissions in Solihull come from the energy we use in our homes. Switching to a green, renewable energy tariff is one way residents can play their part while getting a competitive deal.”
“We want to help our residents access fair, transparent energy deals. This is a simple, no-obligation way for people to fix their energy tariff and protect themselves from future price rises.”
Residents who register will receive a personal energy offer after the scheme’s auction on Tuesday 13 January 2026.
Participation is free, and there is no obligation to switch.
Register before Friday 30 January 2026 and find out more at Collective Energy Switch | Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
